- More than 15,000 runners have participated in one of the most consolidated dates in the running calendar.
- The race was overturned with those affected by the DANA, with a minute of silence before the start and several financial donations by Firefighters Solidaris.
The Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona once again showcased the spirit of running and solidarity, with over 15,000 runners and 300 members of the Barcelona Fire Brigade filling the city’s streets. As one of Barcelona’s most iconic and popular races, all entries sold out weeks in advance.
“We are proud to support the Cursa Bombers de Barcelona for the fourth consecutive year, an initiative that not only reflects our strong commitment to the territory and people, but also embodies the values of solidarity, improvement and community that we share ”, explains Sandra Hors, Director of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Sustainability at Vueling. “This collaboration strengthens our bond with the city, which is an essential part of our identity.”
No surprises
Two prominent names from the Catalan running scene emerged victorious in this year’s race. Adam Maijó, who previously claimed victory in 2022, secured the win once again with an impressive time of 29:27. “It’s a pleasure to come to the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona. Firefighters make this race magical by everything they do, and by how they cheer. We are stringing together good weeks of training, with good feelings for the upcoming competitions. After winning in 2022, the goal this year was to win. Let’s see if I can enjoy this special race again next year”.
Meritxell Soler, the 2022 champion, triumphed once again in the women’s category with an impressive time of 32:57. “I’m really happy with the race because my goal was to win, and I didn’t expect to go below 33 minutes,” she shared. “Yes, it’s a very good circuit, but considering the point I’m at in the season, I didn’t anticipate such favorable weather. So, I’m doubly happy.” After the Olympics, I rested a bit. Starting again and seeing the new season begin so well makes me even happier.”
Anna Torras (35:48) and Marc Fernández (29:56) were the winners in the Under-23 category.
A memory for those affected by DANA
One of the key pillars of the Fire Brigade is solidarity, and this year’s edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona highlighted this with a special focus on DANA, the weather event that primarily affected the Valencian Community. Before the start of the 10km race, an emotional minute of silence was observed, honoring those impacted by the disaster.
Additionally, Bombers Solidaris, a non-profit organization made up of members of the Barcelona Fire Brigade, made several significant donations to organizations supporting those affected by DANA. These included €1,000 to EREC, which has been involved in victim search efforts with dogs, despite running out of water, €1,000 to ASL, which is coordinating humanitarian aid and providing spaces, and €2,000 to Bombers pel Món, a Valencian NGO that has been managing volunteers and distributing all types of aid. These are just a few of the solidarity initiatives associated with the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona. This year, the race hopes to raise over €40,000 for such important causes.
