• More than 18,000 runners, the best number of registrations since 2015, filled the streets of Barcelona in a great running and solidarity party, sharing the route with members of the Barcelona Fire Department.
  • The day was also marked by its very high sporting level: Meritxell Soler achieved a new Catalan record and Marta Galimany the European record in F40.
  • A new record in solidarity has also been achieved: the more than €60,000 raised for solidarity initiatives is a new record in the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona

The 26th edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona was held this Sunday, consolidating the event as one of the best known and most popular in the city, with all 18,000 bibs on sale sold out. This 2025, the event achieved a female participation of 41%, an absolute record that meant 7,451 female runners at the starting line.

As it could not be otherwise, the members of the Barcelona Fire Department were the protagonists of the day, with a total of 358 firefighters, the highest number in history, completing the 10km route. The new route, with a start and finish on Avinguda Marquès de l’Argentera, has been designed to offer a faster and smoother experience, where the party and the best atmosphere were the protagonists.

Very high level in the elites

But the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona has not only been a great celebration of popular running, as two very high-level records have been broken.

Meritxell Soler was the winner of the women’s category with a time of 31:47, a mark that is a new record for Catalonia in 10k. The athlete from Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, who has added her fourth victory in the Bombers after also winning in 2024, 2022 and 2021, has been very satisfied with her performance: “Very happy, the goal was to achieve this record for Catalonia. I knew it would be complicated, it is a fast pace but I was very excited. I knew I had to achieve it in this race, which I really like, on a circuit. Today was the day, everything went perfectly.” As the winner of the 26th edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona says, this year’s route and the festive atmosphere experienced were very important factors in achieving a new record: “It’s a circuit that I really like. The Paral·lel is done at the beginning and then it’s all downhill, mentally it helps a lot. In addition, it’s a race that has a lot of people cheering you on, the firefighters pass by and encourage you. That helps a lot, especially when you lack strength at the end, that’s what gets you there.” But it wasn’t just a day of celebration for Meritxell Soler, as Marta Galimany also made history at the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona 2025. The athlete from Valls, winner of the race in 2016 and 2018, finished in second place with a time of 31:59, a new European record in the F40 age group. “To go below 32 minutes for the first time would have been a record, but I already knew that Txell was coming in very strong. Very happy for her, she had a great race and I can only congratulate her.”

Cristina Silva finished in third place, with a time of 33:34. The winner of the general classification was Abdessamad Oukhelfen, with a time of 28:32. Dimitrijs Serjogins (29:30) and Alex Salas (29:37) completed the podium with the silver and bronze medals respectively.

A historic Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona

There was also a record in female participation, both in terms of the percentage of bibs (41%) and the number of female runners, with a total of 7,451 runners.

Year after year, this figure has increased, consolidating the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona as one of the most equal in the city. “It’s a great thing, I always encourage all the girls to run. Seeing that more and more of us fill the streets and the races is motivation. And there still needs to be more,” said Marta Galimany moments after crossing the finish line.

Mertixell Soler was also very happy to see more and more girls at the starting line: “It’s a very good sign, girls are increasingly daring to run faster and faster. I think it’s a very good example for the girls of the future and seeing that we are all increasingly encouraged makes me happy.”

Running and solidarity

The Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona 2025 has also been the most charitable in history: more than €60,000 has been raised for charitable causes, surpassing the previous record set last year. To date, more than €44,000 has been raised through 21 challenges promoted by Bombers Solidaris through the portal migranodearena.org. To this figure must be added the more than €18,000 corresponding to the registrations of the runners of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona.
