- The official presentation of the 26th edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona was held this afternoon in Plaça Ramon Berenguer el Gran
The main figures for the 26th edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona were presented today: 18,000 people registered, the best figure since 2015 and a 20% increase compared to last year. In addition, the race achieved a female participation rate of 41%, an absolute record with 7,451 women at the starting line. In this way, the race reaffirms its position as one of the most popular and beloved in the city.
An emblematic and approved route
The Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona returns to its classic and faster route, approved by the Catalan Athletics Federation, which consolidates it as one of the benchmark events on the Barcelona athletic calendar.
The official presentation of the race took place in Plaça Ramon Berenguer el Gran, a key point on the route. The race will be held on Sunday, November 9 at 8:50 a.m., and marks a special milestone in the 10 km races.
As explained by David Escudé, Barcelona’s Sports Councilor, “this Sunday 18,000 running fans, including many firefighters who participate, will wake up early and meet in front of the Estación de França station at this magical moment that is the starting signal for the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona. With this 26th edition, we recover the legendary section of Via Laietana and, therefore, we return to the most emblematic circuit of the race, a great incentive to improve our records. As always, it will be essential to feel the support of the public and, for this reason, I encourage citizens to take to the streets and encourage all the stories of overcoming that will be experienced that day.”
Firefighters, soul and tradition of the race
As is tradition, the participants will be accompanied by the Barcelona Fire Department. This year, the event will break a historic record with 358 firefighters who will run in their service uniforms and more than 17 kg of equipment, thus completing the 10 km route.
The director of the Barcelona Fire Department, Sebastià Massagué, wanted to highlight the importance of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona: “On behalf of the Barcelona Fire Department, we are very proud of the participation of firefighters in this athletic event, which fits perfectly with the values and principles of our organization. This race is on the calendar of many other firefighters, not only from Barcelona, but also from the Generalitat, the State and other countries, and it is something that fills us with pride.”
Faster circuit with Via Laietana as the protagonist
The new route, with a start and finish on Avinguda Marquès de l’Argentera, has been designed to offer a faster and smoother experience. The circuit recovers the passage along Via Laietana, an emblematic section that makes it ideal for achieving better personal bests.
The sports director of the race, Roger Roca, explained: “Our goal was to create a faster circuit for runners, maintaining the essence of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona present in the previous 25 editions”.
Runner equipment and experience
This edition features a new Decathlon t-shirt, in black and yellow, in homage to the characteristic clothing of the city’s firefighters. The slogan “We run by your side” appears in the center of the garment, accompanied by a design that represents the route and the race logo.
Participants will be able to collect their runner’s bag with the t-shirt, bib, gym bag and other gifts from sponsors, from 6 to 8 November at six Decathlon collection points.
Commitment and shared values
Vueling’s external communications manager, Anna Viladot, reiterated the airline’s commitment as the main sponsor, highlighting its connection with Barcelona and the pride of supporting the Barcelona Fire Brigade, with 360 participants from the Vueling team: “At Vueling we feel very proud to be part of another year of such an emblematic event in the city as the Barcelona Fire Brigade Race, which represents shared values: effort, improvement and a spirit of solidarity. With this collaboration we reaffirm our commitment to the city and to sport”.
Raquel Pont, partner and director of NTT DATA Catalunya, technological partner of the race, added: “At NTT DATA, constant effort, personal improvement and camaraderie are more than corporate values: they are part of our way of moving forward together. These principles find a natural reflection in the world of sport, especially in running, where each step represents a challenge overcome and a shared goal. Participating in the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona, an emblematic race that unites the city around the spirit of improvement, is for us a way of celebrating what drives us as a team and as a company.”
Elite athletes and records at stake
This edition will feature elite runners such as Marta Galimany, winner in 2016 and 2018, and Meritxell Soler, champion in 2021, 2022 and 2023, who will compete for the title and also for the 10K record of Catalonia.
A race with a heart of solidarity
The Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona 2025 maintains its solidarity commitment in collaboration with Bombers Solidaris, which allows runners and supporters to promote solidarity challenges in favor of non-profit organizations in areas such as health, medical research, social inclusion, international cooperation or children.
So far, 25,000 euros have been raised through 21 challenges promoted by Bombers Solidaris through the portal migranodearena.org.
