The 24th Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona, with more than 12,000 runners, has once again become one of the most important running events in the city.
The premiere of the new route has been the one that has created more expectation among the more than 13,500 registered runners in this edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona, where the organisation, due to the high demand and the runners’ requests, has had to extend the 12,500 initial bibs that it had. 250 runners had the honour of opening this event of sport, solidarity and fun.
The start of the race was livened up by the great Andreu Presas, announcer of Ràdio Flaixbac, the official broadcaster of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona.
The councillor for Sports, David Escudé, said: “In this 24th edition of the Vueling Cursa Bombers Barcelona we have once again witnessed an exciting competition in an atmosphere of celebration along the entire route. Once again, this race has established itself as a unique opportunity to do sport, show solidarity and appreciate the daily work of the Barcelona Fire Brigade”.
Abdessamad Oukhelfen and Laura Rodriguez the first in the new circuit
Abdessamad Oukhelfen in the men’s category and Laura Rodriguez in the women’s category have won the 24th edition of the Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcleona. Abdessamad crossed the finish line with a time of 0:28:42 minutes, Oukhelefen highlighted the speed of the course “coming back to run in Barcelona and to such an emblematic race as the firefighters is always a pleasure”.
In the women’s category, Laura Rodriguez won the trophy with a time of 0:34:13 minutes. “I am very happy to have achieved my personal best in the Vueling Carrera de Bomberos Barcelona, an emblematic race” said Rodriguez after lifting the trophy.
On behalf of the Barcelona Fire Brigade, Adrià and Mireia were the first to cross the finish line.
The other podium: the solidarity podium
The solidarity aspect of the Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona has shone once again in this 24th edition. More than €26,000 was raised through the 13 solidarity challenges that the Firefighters in Solidarity association launched through the ‘My grain of sand’ foundation. In this edition, CaixaBank wanted to reinforce its commitment to the Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcleona by supporting the solidarity challenges as a social partner. The challenge that raised the most money was the Victoria Pavilion, led by Arce García, which raised more than €6,000 for the creation of a children’s hospital.
The new circuit of the firefighters has been a great success, increasing the number of finishers and showing a more agile and accessible route for all those citizens who want to enjoy a festive, sporting and solidarity party in equal parts.
La Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona thus closes its 24th edition, establishing itself as one of the most successful popular races in Barcelona.
